Summary: MLS, bunker on top of hill. Several men standing behind bunker. MS, artillery forward observer looking through high-powered glasses. Man next to him speaks into mike. RA, of same. LSF over the shoulders of the two men, of smoke from artillery shells on Hill 983 and 900 in bg. CU, observer looking through the glass. (Man is grinning as in the other shots up ahead.) MS, the man looking through high-powered glass, another man crouched in front of him speaking into mike. Several other men also in scene. MS, over shoulder, man looking at map. He wears 2nd Div patch. CU, radio operator speaking into mike. MS, Korean officer speaking over phone. A man to the r with map. Some men standing in bg. LS, Hill 983. Smoke from white phosphorous shell. LIBERATION DAY IN SEOUL.: Korea: 08/15/1951: HS, crowds assembled. Some with banners. Crowds with banners assembled in front of the Capitol. Marchers coming twd camera. Korean band playing outside Capitol. CU, several members of the band playing. They are of the 1st ROK band. Maj Gen John W O'Daniel, CG, I Corps, arrives with another officer and takes his place at the grandstand. Daniel and some of his officers, including Brig Gen Rinaldo Van Brunt, in front of City Hall. MS, Gen O'Daniel speaking. CU, as Gen O'Daniel receives bouquet of flowers from a little girl. Gen O'Daniel gets out of L-plane at racetrack airstrip and is greeted by Mayor Kim Tai Sun and Col Melchior. L/R in front of palace: Brig Gen Brittingham, Brig Gen Rinaldo Van Brunt, Gen O'Daniel, Mayor Kim Tai Sun. Mayor Kim addresses the crowd. MS, Gen O'Daniel addresses the crowd. An official leads the people in cheer at conclusion of speeches. LS, the general and others walking up steps of Chung- Duk Palace. He is greeted. Int, seated at table, Gen Van Brunt, Dr Helen Kim, Pres of Ewha Women's University; Gen O'Daniel, Mrs Kim Tai Sun, Gen Brittingham, Col Melchior, Mayor Kim Tai Sun. Korean and folk dancers perform for O'Daniel and his party. O'Daniel leaves the palace. MS, O'Daniel shaking hands with Mayor Kim. CHURCH SERVICE: Yangju, Korea, 38th Inf Regt: 08/19/1951: LS, chapel, made of pine boughs and logs. CU, of cross on chapel. Through the boughs, a man kneeling before the altar. MLS, RV, priest holding confession before the services start. There is another man seated in lfg. Int of the chapel as Mass is celebrated. Men of the 38th Inf attend. The Mass was said by the regt chaplain. Shot, from behind altar, as the chaplain speaks to congregation. MSs, as the wine is prepared. Men receiving Holy Communion. A GI acts as altar boy. MS, the priest, then altar boy, saying the last prayers of the Mass. Testaments are passed out. The men leaving the chapel.
