Description

Summary: A soldier consoles a member of "K" Co, 65th Inf, who was wounded in the eyes when tank hit a mine. The man is in great pain. CU, MLS, showing tank treads blown off. A soldier uncovers mine which was booby-trapped with a grenade. CU, mine and grenade. Looking out across the field, Inf, tank. Shot, made from moving vehicle, as Inf starts to move out. Men working on the retrieving of a tank that hit a mine. It is raining. Men working around the bogie wheels. MS, Follow, as the tank is pulled by another vehicle. Three men looking on. CU, spectacled soldier wearing a helmet. Rain dripping from him as he watches. CU, man digging around bogie wheels. SUPPORTING FIRE; TAKING OF HILL "1179".: Korea: 07/30/1951: MS, Negro man, stripped to the waist, loading and firing 4.2 mortar. LS, showing other mortars in the lineup. LS, activity at mortars. Men unloading shells, mortars being fired. MST another mortar unit. A man adjusts the mortar, looks through sight. An asst stands by. ELS, stacks of used shellcases. LS, across mountainous area, showing smoke moving up from side of hill. LS, mortar company, 38th RCT, in action. MSs, men firing mortars. Some men holding their hands to their ears. REFUGES REENTERING SEOUL.: Seoul, Korea: 07/30/1951: CU, tired old woman sitting by bundles. She leans her head on her arms. Man carrying a large bundle walks past some men. One man puts his arm out to stop him and then lets him by. MS, old man goes on barge. Shot, from the barge, as a woman comes aboard. A child hesitates and a woman lifts him into boat. Refugees on boat. LS, people wading across the river. In fg several ramshackle structures. Woman carrying a valise on her head, followed by little boys on beach. Another woman and child run by in bg. CU, woman with child. The woman is smiling, the child stares. HAS, of crowd of refugees waiting for guard to check their identity. Shots, of the crowd waiting. Pan to, refugees standing on line near table. One woman is breast-feeding a child. She pleads with the guard to let her through. She is refused.
