The KC-135, first jet tanker-transport model to be ordered by the Us S. Air Force, will greatly increase the range and mobility of SAC 's B=52 wings. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojet engines, the new tanker is capable of flying at speeds of more then 600 miles per hour and at altitudes above 35,000 feet, thus provid- ing the B=52's aeriel refueling service at their own operational speeds and altitudes. The KC-135 is equipped with a telescoping Flying Boom that is extremely streamlined as compared to the boom used on the KC-97, the airplane it will replace as the Air Force's standard aerial tanker Aerial refueling equipment is entirely on the lower deck of the plane leaving the upper deck completely clear for cargo or troop-carrying services. The new Boeing can accommodate 80 passengers on 25 tons of cargo, or a combination of both. Sequences show: (get Tarker Transport) (a) Boeing KC-135 Jet Stratotanker flight.
