S. 1st Air Cavalry Division were airlifted to search out caves and other underground locations used by the Viet Cong to store supplies and equipment. When this search was conducted, the tide was out. This afforded the opportunity to search areas along the shoreline not previously checked out. A Vietnamese interpreter, who accompanied the 1st Air Cavalry soldiers on the search, uses a portable loudspeaker to talk into the caves to persuade any hiding Viet Cong to come out and surrender. Meanwhile, a U. S. Navy patrol boat is patrolling in nearby waters to report locations of any Viet Cong observed from the boat. This search resulted in the capture of more than 50 Viet Cong suspects. Here, a huge CH-47 Chinook helicopter comes in to pick up the suspects, and a med-evac helicopter lands to pick up a Viet Cong who hurt his leg climbing up the slippery rocks to the helicopter landing area.
