Navy amphibious type ships being sent to the central Vietnam coastal area for possible use in the evacuation of refugees from Vietnam. BACKGROUND: Four U. S. Navy amphibious type ships are now enroute to the central coast of Vietnam. The ships are the USS DURHAM (LKA-114), USS FREDERICK (LST-1184), USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-14), and USS DUBUQUE (LPD-8). The ships have been ordered to proceed to the central coast of Vietnam and await further orders while remaining in international waters. film clip includes the following ships: the USS DUBUQUE (amphibious transport dock) and the USS FREDERICK (tank landing ship); the USS 'MOUNT WHITNEY (amphibious command ship - same type as the USS BLUE RIDGE), and the USS CHARLESTON (amphibious cargo ship - same type as the USS DURHAM).
