(X) ROOM 2D780a EXT. 75111 25 March 1954 SECRETARY OF DEFENSE COMMENTS ON OUTLOOK IN INDO-CHINA (Official Department of Defense Footage) Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson, summarizing Pentagon press conference statements on Indo-China situation, says: "The battle in Indo-China is critical and I expect the French to win. They deserve a great deal of credit for the gallant fight they are putting up. There is no question that the Communists are putting on an extra drive before Geneva just like they did in Korea before the arnistice. "The war in Indo-China has been going on for a long time 7 or 8 the hope of bringing it to a final conclusion rosts on the participation of the native population their training, and their will to win and to keep their country a part of the free world. "Effective and aggressive training of Indo-Chinese troops is essential if the war is to be brought to a successful conclusion. We are willing to assist in such training in any practical way just as wo have done in the case of 8 number of other countries. Such training in itself would not involve us in any war REQUEST CREDIT IN TITLE OR COMMENTARY TO DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE The fine grain master positive was released today in New York to the newsreel company named above for dupli- cation and distribution to all members of the newsreel pool.
