Description

Summary: Secretary of Defense Robert S McNamara makes a statement on the retaliation attack on North Vietnam PT boat bases by US aircraft from the Ticonderoga and Constellation. Two American planes were shot down and two others were damaged. The destroyers USS Maddox and USS C Turner Joy are back on their patrol. US seapower and aircraft are being moved to the Pacific area. The Secretary occasionally points to a map of the area as he speaks. Sec McNamara answers questions from newsmen. CU, pointer on map directs attention to North Vietnam PT bases that are under attack by American aircraft. 6 AUG: Sec McNamara tells of the success of the aerial attack. Men that participated will receive the Navy Unit Citation. McNamara answers questions from the reporters.
