Summary: LS, sign:"Biet Dong Quan" (Ranger Kill). Pan to Viet Ranger trainees going thru motions of hand-to-hand combat. Two trainees in judo exercise as others look on. Viet officer and American adviser talking. Training patrol; the men, wearing branches of leaves for camouflage, listen to a briefing. Looking on are Capt Samuel W Smith, US Adviser, Maj William T Thompson, chief adviser, RCT; and a Viet officer. The patrol starts off. Maj Thompson, Capt Smith, and Viet officer, arrive at site where the first problem will be worked on. They go behind shrubs and watch. Three men of patrol come upon a Viet, flat on his back, supposedly wounded. The trainees of the patrol look at the wound on the man's leg, carry him off to shady area and continue on their way. The patrol on the trail. Following are Maj Thompson, Capt Smith and Viet officer patrol on another part of the trail; they run into the brush. Two soldiers of the patrol near a tree. A soldier is directed by the patrol leader. Soldier finds a simulated dead Vietcong. Another soldier covers area while the first soldier attaches wire to the dead man's weapon. Wire is pulled and explodes on imitation booby trap. The soldiers (patrol) are startled by a planned ambush in dense woods. Dummies drop from trees. The men swing wildly at the dummies. Patrol continues over jungle path. Outdoor class listens to Viet officer talk about rope drop. Capt Robert W McKee, VS Adviser, observes the class. Demonstration. Viet soldier climbs ladder to platform atop tree. He crawls out on rope and drops into water. Class watches. At another training area, Viet soldiers hit water as they slide down cable. (Slide for Life.) An Australian and an American (advisers) watch.
