Summary: Approx. 200': Soldier patient of the 5th Bn, 60th Inf, 9th Inf Div, on guard at hospital post. He is dressed in pajamas, slippers, helmet, and armored vest. Civilian passes are checked. Jeeps enter and leave hospital grounds. Soldier patient searches civilians. Patient opens hospital gate. Garbage truck enters. 3d Field Hospital sign. Soldier patient carrying rifle exits hospital. He walks to guard post and joins MP on duty. Civilian's ID card is checked. Soldier patient sitting on chair at guard post. 82D ABN DIV BASE CAMP AND COMBAT OPERATIONS.: Phu Bai, South Vietnam: 03/25/1968 - 03/27/1968: Approx. 580': Two soldiers with scout dogs search huts in village. They cross field, search in brush, and walk along jungle path. Soldiers carry wounded Vietcong to UN-1D copter. The copter takes off. CU, old man having his tooth pulled by medic. Soldiers crossing rice paddy. Soldier crouches in grass. Medic treats elderly villagers. Bulldozer covers Vietcong trench and tunnel. Soldiers take cover as they come under sniper fire from wrecked building. They fire their weapons at the building. Soldier firing M-16 rifle at sniper position. Officer speaks over AN/PRC-25 radio. Soldier making adjustments on radar receiver transmitter device. The device is used for detecting enemy movement at night. Soldier in mortar pit receives fire mission over phone. Soldiers aim and ready 4.2 mortar for firing. Soldiers stack mortar rounds in ammo bunkers at mortar position. Soldiers improvise litter from fatigue jackets and two narrow poles. UN-1D lands alongside smoke from signal grenade. The wounded soldier is carried on the makeshift litter to the copter. MP marches blindfolded suspect to collection point in POW compound. Blindfold is removed from the suspect and he is searched. Items are placed in envelope. MP marches suspect to detainee compound. Officer speaks over AN/PRC- 25 radio. Jeep with 106mm RR drives into position. VS, 106RR firing at sniper position. Wrecked buildings being hit by 106RR fire. 106mm RR firing. MP leads suspect from detainee compound. MP distributes C-rations to prisoners.
