Hoover Dam Part 5
Description
This film captures images of the structure previously known as the Boulder Dam -- subsequently designated Hoover Dam in accordance with Public Law 43 80th Congress. The film tells the story of the Hoover Dam and the story of controlling the Colorado River flowing through seven states. It describes the highways and rail lines that were built to deliver construction material and the construction of Boulder City, a model city constructed in the Nevada desert to house 5,000 men who built the dam. It also shows the various steps in the construction process, including the diversion of the river through tunnels, and drainage of the riverbed so geologists could study the history of the river and the preparation of the riverbed surface for concrete. Scenes show delivery of concrete to the riverbed on cables, construction of the power plant, intake towers, and spillways; and how pipes were manufactured.
