Mattress fire test Part 1
Description
Footage and detailed narration of a fire test conducted at the National Bureau of Standards. In a 10 by 16 foot simulated patient's room, a fire is ignited in a waste basket, and a camera in the doorway films the growth of the resulting fire. A clock with a sweeping second hand just outside the room is used to time when the smoke detector and sprinklers come on, and flame propagation. Other observations include various temperatures within the room, flame height, and smoke level. In an eight minute experiment, most of the room is consumed by fire.
