Description
This moving image shows the effect of war industries on the economy of the South. Black tenants pick cotton and process sorghum in fields and shows many scenes of construction of the Kusa River Ordnance Plant along with the influx of war workers to the facilities of Talladega and Childersburg, Alabama. Emergency housing is erected and food for an Army post is unloaded, prepared, and eaten. World War I scenes show charging U.S. troops and a peace celebration (in New York City?). Veterans return to farming and dairying and war plants stand abandoned. President Roosevelt tells Congress that people will have security after this war.
