Challenge to Democracy Part 1
Description
This film documents the lifestyle of Japanese-Americans (also known as Nisei) relocated during World War II. Scenes show housing at relocation centers in Arkansas and at Heart Mountain, Wyoming; the evacuees as they attended schools; ate in a mess hall, played ball, held elections (they were self-governing); farmed, and attended church. Scenes detail occupations later taken up by Nisei once they had been deemed "law-abiding citizens," released from their relocation center, and permanently resettled elsewhere in the U.S.
