GOLDEN HORNS Part 2
Description
SUMMARY: A documentary made in 1947 about a deer farm in Novosibirsk. Deer used to run wild in this thickly wooded district, a prey to tigers and accidents of nature. Like the flowers, the horns of the deer grow every spring. From these horns they obtain a drug called "Pantokrin", used in nervous diseases. Formerly a hunter would set out and shoot a deer, then cut off his head in order to obtain the horns. But now a farm has been built which is surrounded by a wire fence to protect the deer. Here they are fed and allowed to run freely. At certain intervals they are held in a harness while their horns are cut off painlessly. Then they run off again. In this manner the valuable drug is obtained more easily.
