SUMMARY: Reel 1: Scene city of Riazan, year 1875. Pavlov as a young man visits the bedside of an elderly villager. Priest is at bedside together with Pavlov. Pavlov and Priest argue over the meaning of the word "soul" and its implications. VS, Medical students gathered together in celebration of New Year. Reel 2: Continuation of New Year celebration. Scenes, Completion of operation upon a dog. Operation is unsuccessful. Operation is performed a second time. This time it is a success. Reel 3: Year 1904, during Russo-Japanese war. Pavlov continues his studies through his dogs. Meeting is held in honor of Pavlov's t anniversary in the study of conditioned reflexes. Pavlov delivers speech to members. Reel 4: After adjournment of meeting, a nurse requests permission from Pavlov to work together with him in his studies of conditioned reflexes. One of the professors working with Pavlov, has a disagreement with him and leaves. Pavlov then hires the nurse. Pavlov is invited and leaves for Cambridge, England where he is given an honorary degree by the university (year 1912). Reel 8: Pavlov together with Gorki visits cite of proposed academy for Pavlov's study. Scenes, Leningrad flood. Pavlov returns to university in time to aid in rescue of dogs from the flooded area. Reenactment of flood conditions studied in reaction upon dog. Pavlov goes to America to lecture regarding his experiments in the relation of dog to man. REEL 10: Aged Pavlov undergoes operation. Recovers and visits building city of Academy with Kirov, political Russian Communist Party leader. (Kirov states in effect that Pavlov's theory in effect is exactly that of the Communist line).
