Astronaut John Young and Mr. Bill Taub, NASA Hqt. Photographer, carrying photo equipment. Overall view of Instructor Jack Martin with the Astronauts first thing in the morning. Here he briefs them on exactly what they will be doing all day and presenting a chance for any questions that may arise. Mr. Jack Martin, Head of the Water Survival School, pulls out a simulated seat ejection system as used in an aircraft. (Main thought is that it has the same harness hookups as the parachute does which the Gemini pilots will be using.) Closeup of Astronaut Jim Lovell. Closeup of Astronaut Elliot See. Closeup of Charles Conrad, Astronaut. Jack Martin showing astronauts how to kick in the water. Astronaut Charles Conrad suiting up for Parachute Drag Test. Astronaut Jim Lovell with a closeup on neck band and portable air conditioner for pressure suit. Astronaut Jim Lovell preparing for Parachute Drag Test. Overall shot of the swimming pool. Astronaut Jim Lovell performing the Parachute Drag Test. Good shot of the neck band deployed. Astronaut Charles Conrad performing the Parachute Drag Test. (Wrong Position) Astronaut Neil Armstrong demonstrating the Back Stroke in full pressure suit. Mercury Life Raft. Astronaut Tom Stafford in the Parachute Engulfment Test. NOTE: Parachute Engulfment Test Description - A parachute is dropped completely over the Astronaut in the water. The swimmers assist in pulling the parachute down tighter and getting it around the Astronaut. He then becomes entangled in the shroud lines and with the parachute getting wet (Possibly cutting off the astro- nauts air), the Astronaut must free himself from the Parachute. Closeup of Dilbert Dunker. Instructor strapping Astronaut Conrad in cockpit. (Astronaut Elliot See stands by as observer). Astronaut Charles Conrad riding the Dilbert Dunker. (Successful) Overall view from top side looking into the pool of the Dilbert Dunker. Astronaut Jim Lovell being strapped in and riding the Dilbert Dunker. (Right Position) Astronaut Neil Armstrong in helicopter lift ring. (Wrong Position) Astronaut Neil Armstrong swimming away. Closeup of Parachute Engulfment with Astronaut Tom Stafford demonstrating his fight through the shroud lines. Astronaut Neil Armstrong in Parachute Engulfment. Note the shroud line cutter in his hand. Astronaut Ed White demonstrating how flexible the space suit is in water. Astronaut Ed White filling up suit with air by pulling neck dam over mouth, taking deep breath through his nose and exhaling in his suit. This puts pressure on the water and bales out the shoe laces, therefore, putting more air in the suit for easier floating. Astronaut Elliot See blowing up his suit. (Same as Ed White above) Astronaut John Young swimming under water showing flexibility of suit. Astronaut John Young demonstrating breast strokes underwater. Astronaut John Young swimming to surface.
