Description
SKYLAB 4 KINESCOPE A208 TAPE 4, PART 2 of 3 Okay, coming up on 1443 on a standby we're watching the VTS with you okay, I'll try to do a little focusing here (garble) does a whole lot of good. Looks pretty fair right here from where we're observing, of course there's not much detail there's some cloud cover naw, therè's no clouds yeah, there is (garble) here we go that's cultivated field with snow on it going by, and I would suspect we're darn close to Denver aw, I thought the white stuff was clouds it's snow! Okay, Ed, 3 minutes, 4740 (garble) zoom back out again, Houston, there's a big river down at from 9 o'clock to 6 'clock - very stimulating and the straight lines you see are clouds looks like a cloud trail or maybe it might be snow on the ground might even be steam we're coming up on a big reservoir is that the reservoir at 9 o'clock? Yeah, it's coming right down the center is another reservo zoom in on that one hey, Clint, do you notice a loss of focus on that last zoom? When you're looking on the TV screen down there? Yeah it's kinda' hard to tell, seems like it might (garble) a little bit. Okay, Jerry, (garble) VTR on okay, coming up at your 12 o'clock is Toledo Bend and one of our targets is let's see, #350 - no, #450 (garble) right now standby there's #450 - I have a couple of all right, we're coming up on Abbeyville see White Lake? White Lake is a beautiful landmark. That's the way to go Okay, Ed, about one minute (garble) trying to collect data it's a fairly uniform area, it's uh pretty checkerboard, it looks very much like an agricultural area standing by for 4720 4720 start (garble) 34 (garble) go to manual, and standby, Ed (garble) standby for 4750 4750 altimeter turn right on Abbeyville it's gone out pretty impressive on that VTS how stable you can hold it start looking for some Yucatan crud here standby for 4816 (garble) had a good (garble) on Camera 3, which we expected. We shouldn't even have loaded that thing (garble) til standby you can probably anticipate a couple of (garble) there's no problem. Another one there that ain't snow. Okay, it's pretty heavy cloud cover so far let's see, I've got standby about 20 seconds to go to (garble) the clouds are starting to break up hey, we've even got (garble) here , too. Maybe we can see some sun (garble) Okay, Houston, I don't see any of those big cloud straits but maybe the arcs of tibulus over them I'm sweeping way out (garble) if I can't find them SL-4 Kinescope #A208 Page 2 Okay, I've lost my ready light 15 seconds on the altimeter. I'm gonna' try to stay in the sun glitter, Houston, I think there's more data available from that there's a peculiar looking way the cloud straits have kind of formed up will give you some data here (garble) it's about time to turn it off stand by 5128 altimeter on stand by for 196 altimeter (garble) for another target now looked pretty sharp when you went in then that was sort of a genuflecting cloud strait okay, here's an interesting shot for you, Houston we got a sort of an atol corral reef there, and we've got cloud straits and a cumulus that seems to cut right across the cloud straits going into max zoom now try to hold the position for a little while out of site there I'll zoom back out and see if I can find something (garble) have a ready light on (garble) turn it off for 15 seconds here's somemore of those arc clouds with cloud straits it's a lot easier for you (garble), if I go in max, we just look at one cloud but I'll do it (garble) and come back out again could you give us the angles as to where you're at right now we'd appreciate it now we're on data right now 00 and tracking to the right 12 degrees. Okay, this I'm just gonna' cut a track along this one this is very interesting you can see a bunch of cloud straits being intersected by cumulus (garble) Okay, we're one minute from LOS and we'll see you over Vanguard in about 10 minutes at 1504 okay, I'm gonna' miss (garble) if I don't get with it here Standby for 5448 okay, here's a uniform area at (garble) I didn't even get that started until 5 after (garble) standby negative The Amazon is next okay, I've got (garble) on Cameras 4, 5 and 6 just came on just gonna' check the circuit breakers they all three came on at the same time (garble) L-4 KINESCOPE #A208 Page 3 Okay, we're about two minutes from the Amazon okay, looks like we've depleted Cameras 4, 5 and 6...I think we just crossed the Rio Negro coming up now, Houston, an aquatic cloud strait pattern here over the land (garble) Run out of film, Bill? standby like such a shame okay, coming up on the Amazon you can hardly see it between the clouds okay, I'm tracking the Amazon getting data button push at 27 degrees of gimbal angle and I'm left 4 degrees the part of the Amazon that was under me was under clouds now as I track this particular hunk of the Amazon, I see an island up to my left in the middle of the river and what looks like a sandbar just right near the island, and I'm tracking out in the middle of the water of the Amazon, trying to avoid clouds and the bank of the river trying to stay near uniform water we have scattered clouds here in this particular field of view and the clouds straits okay, Ed, one minute for ETC to stand by. (garble) completion of Amazon station one Okay, Ed, I'm sure (garble) in about 30 seconds if you'll stand by, and you go back to auto Ten seconds ETC standby and on my mark ETC to auto five seconds ETC auto (garble) okay, tape recorder, this is VTS, I think we got an error in the pad here (garble) says we're gonna' get that 0514 naw, I guess that's about right I was gonna' say 07 now Apollo should be easy to find because it's got a lake between it and the coast looks like you got a pretty dense cloud cover there yeah, we're better than that, we're two layers of clouds a high layer of cirrus which is scattered and broken and a low layer of cumulus essentially those are cloud straits there must not be much wind down there you see the cirrus above and the below yeah, uh huh okay, I think I see the coastline coming up Skylab Houston, Vanguard LOS seven minutes Roger, . Crip we're coming up on Salpallo (?), but it looks like (garble) it might be socked in go to auto it may be clear just before you get there and we'd like to thank you for that fantastic show you gave us coming across roger, you're welcome boy, Toledo Bend was just wide open and beautiful yeah, I can make out the coastline down below the clouds but uh I doubt we'll be able to see Sao Paulo until we're right smack dab over the top of it (garble) about L-4 KINESCOPE #A208 Page 4 45 degrees and I can't see it for the clouds about 20 or 30 seconds for ETC to standby what'd ya' do, Ed, have to go to solar inertial? Standby mark ETC to standby okay, and the VTR goes off at 0635, Bill, I'll give you a mark. Now, Crip, I'm almost already in now, and I can see one little piece of coastline and it's broken to overcast two layers of clouds one low layer of cumulus and one layer of broken to overcast cirrus yeah, I guess we '11 have to give up one, but the rest of it was fantastic though standby we'll go to manual I can see sun glint on rivers and things in swamp area underneath the clouds, I think I'll go ahead and take data on it (garble) never did get a ready light (garble) gonna' get mostly cloud data I'm afraid sure did, find one little hunk of river standing open okay, we've got some great glitter on the ocean, and there's all sorts of straits and things out over the ocean that I think are pretty darn interesting in the sun glitter lots of lines, you can see currents, ripples, wave patterns, man, it's really something Okay, looks like we've used up the film in all the cameras except one, Crip. No. 1 is the only (garble) got an incomplete light about 30 seconds into the run I'd say that's really good timing. Beautiful, Crip, you people on the ground do good work
