The Day the Tide Turned Red Part 4

Description

This film describes the "red tide" caused by a type of plankton. Its color can vary from yellow to purple, and it can kill fish and cause paralysis and even death in humans. U.S. Navy scientists, with Dr. Dean F. Martin, conducted extensive research at the University of South Florida (USF) to discover how and when the red tide occurs, how to predict future red tides, and how to control the toxins. This research determined that red tide toxins can be used in cancer research, and may be useful in the treatment of other diseases. The film is a Department of the Navy production that was sponsored by the Office of the Oceanographer of the Navy and the Office of Naval Research.
