This Is America (No. 4) Reel 1 · Part 3
Description
This documentary film is a salute to the office workers and soldiers who kept the wheels of Washington, D.C. turning throughout World War II. In Reel 1, Washington is compared to an industrial boomtown where the big business is government. Various views of federal buildings and government offices are shown, with a focus on the lives of an Army secretary and an Army White House guardsman. In Reel 2, the daily work experience and social life at a United Service Organization (USO) is described, Franklin Roosevelt speaks on the workers' invaluable service, and scenes of monuments, statues, and the Capitol building — all symbols of the democratic ideals the workers are helping to maintain — are shown. The film was produced by RKO Radio Pictures, Inc. and Frederic Ullman, Jr., directed by James Moore, written by Phil Relman, Jr., and narrated by Dwight Weist.
