(E Commiciato Im) Calabria: (It Began in) Calabria - 1950 Part 2
Description
A film describing the land reform program in one of Italy's poorest regions, Calabria, and how an Italian initiative - "Opera Sila" - reclaims the land and sells it to peasant cooperatives (through the use of American aid funds). Those who work the land are offered farm machines by lot (to avoid political favoritism), and equipment they can pay for through long-term, low-cost loans. They also receive seed for the first planting and livestock, as well as expert instruction. Dams for water control and irrigation and the construction of new roads to market are part of the scheme. A Marshall Plan Film produced by Pino Giemini, Rome, for ECA Italy.
