Japanese Bride in America Reel 1 · Part 2
Description
This film highlights the struggles of Japanese women who came to the United States after marrying American soldiers during the Cold War, specifically using the story of a woman named Miwako, who moves to Cleveland, Ohio, with her husband, Walter. Miwako must learn to adjust to American life, and, for the most part, people are welcoming, but she struggles to feel comfortable, especially with the English language. Despite initial hardships, Miwako gradually begins to fit in, particularly after she and her husband start a business making and selling bamboo housewares. The film was presented by the U.S. Army Signal Corps’ Civil Affairs Division and produced by Knickerbocker Productions, Inc., New York, NY.
