Charles Ives: The Musical Philosopher - 1975 Part 1
Description
In this program, USIA music advisor and musicologist Daryl D. Dayton traces the history and musical development of America's most famous composer, Charles Ives. Dayton is assisted by critic, curator, and performer John Kirkpatrick and American composer Elliott Carter, both of whom have personally known Charles Ives. The film uses photographs of Ives in New England as well as his music to highlight important biographical and musical ideas. Also included is a partial performance of Ives' Concord Sonata by pianist Alan Mandel and a brief section of the Symphony No. 4, performed by the Miami Philharmonic.
