Description

This film tells the story of the liberation of French prisoners from Nazi concentration camps. Filmed by U.S. Army Signal Corps cameramen and the French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson (himself a prisoner in one of the camps), scenes in the film show the removal of prisoners to temporary hospitals and their joyful reunions with family members and friends in Paris. The film is an abbreviated version of Cartier-Bresson’s documentary "Le Retour" and was presented by United Films, produced by USIS (Paris) in cooperation with the United States Army, narrated by Daniel Chuggerman, and supervised by Peter F. Elgar.
