Yusef and His Plough Reel 1 · Part 2
Description
This film presents the story of how a young boy's entrepreneurial spirit serves his community well. On the plains of central Turkey, farming is hard, especially when only age-old methods are used. The surrounding hills have long since been cut bare and offer little protection from sun and wind. Yusef and his father work their land with oxen and wooden plough, exactly as their forefathers have done for hundreds of years — that is, until Yusef attends Agricultural School. Yusef returns and convinces his father of the importance of using a metal plough and of following the new methods he has learned, such as letting some of the fields lie fallow and not making them yield a crop every year. The youth of Turkey, eager and swift to learn, introduce their villages to new methods and new equipment, much of which is made available by the government through the European Recovery Program (ERP). This is a Marshall Plan film, produced by Clarke & Hornby Film Productions Ltd, London, for ECA Turkey.
