Hostage! Part 7
Description
This film emphasizes that all nations have a deep interest in the rule of law in diplomacy — particularly smaller countries that depend heavily on respect for the rules by their powerful neighbors. Hosted by reporter Paul Berry, the film uses the Iran Hostage Crisis as an example, but also considers the broader implications of the Iran tragedy. Articulate, recognized authorities on diplomatic practice and international law are featured, including United Nations Security Council speakers from Mauritius (Amb. Radha Krishna Ramphul), the Federal Republic of Germany (Amb. Rudiger von Wechmar), Japan (Amb. Masahiro Nishibori), Bolivia (Amb. Sergio Palacios de Vizzio), Greece (Amb. Nicolas Katapodis), the U.S.S.R. (Amb. Oleg Troyanovsky), Kuwait (Amb. Abdullah Bishara), China (Amb. Chen Chu), and the United States (Amb. Donald McHenry); U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim; State Department legal advisor Louis G. Fields; Amb. Winston A. Tubman of Liberia; Amb. Tommy "T.T.B." Koh of Singapore; Dr. Majid Khadduri of Johns Hopkins University; and U.S. president Jimmy Carter.
