Land of Enchantment Reel 1 · Part 3
Description
This film is a documentary that describes the traditional crafts in a Native American settlement in New Mexico. Reel 1 depicts the home of artist Georgia O'Keefe, examines her art, and shows Navaho artists making pottery. Native Americans are also shown performing a ritual rain dance. In Reel 2, men illustrate adobe construction. Scenes of the Rio Grande River are included, as well as a description of how modern irrigation methods ensure a harvest of corn, peppers, and wheat. In Reel 3, wheat is ground by water power. Also included are scenes of family life in the settlement's Spanish enclave. Finally, Georgia O'Keefe returns to the desert, which is the inspiration for her work. The film is an Affiliated Film production that is part of the "The American Scene" series and was distributed by the Office of War Information (State Department); written and directed by Henwar Rodakiewicz; and narrated by Philip Bourneuf.
