NEW WOODS FOR OLD Reel 2 · Part 1
Description
A state forester shows a group of farmers how to manage their timber tracts. Explains the importance of weeding and thinning the areas (removing diseased and crooked trees and worthless "weed" trees like the black gum and red maple), logging only mature trees, and clearing slash from the logged areas so that young trees may develop unhindered. A buyer logs trees according to his contract with a farmer (removing slash, cutting only mature trees marked by the farmer, and paying a price agreed upon prior to the logging).
