Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., at Sea Part 1
Description
This film covers the career of (then) Lt. Elmo R. Zumwalt in the Far East, from the Japanese surrender to his return home from World War II. The film shows Zumwalt aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Robinson (DD-562) when the ship captures a Japanese gunboat, and his voyage up the Yangtze River to Shanghai to contact U.S. Admiral Milton E. Miles, an ally of Chiang Kai-Shek. The film contains rare footage of Shanghai at the time of transition from Japanese to National Chinese control, as well as the Japanese surrender aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri (BB-63) and the U.S. fleet arriving at Shanghai.
