Physical Damage, Japanese Aircraft Fields and Plants Part 3

Description

CU Of corrugated metal roofing showing the frequency of distribution of bomb fragments which were distributed in the three hangars. A series of three shots showing the craters caused by 500 lb GP bomb probably fused .01 and non-delay tail. MLS Showing the effect of fragmentation on an aircraft engine in the foreground and swinging corrugated metal in the background. MLS Looking NE at the N wall of the building located between the second and third fitting shops which shows frequency distribution, perforation and penetration of 500 lb GP bomb fragments on a reinforced concrete wall. MLS Of a section of the reinforced concrete wall in a state of collapse. MLS Of a reinforced concrete panel riddled with fragments. CU Of a small area of the concrete wall showing the effect of fragmentation. MCU Of small transformer which was damaged by blast and fragmentation in the second fitting ship. MCU Of a direct hit in the S end of the second fitting shop showing the cratering effect of a slow functioning 500 lb GP bomb fused .1 and ND or possibly .1 nose and .025 tail. Also seen in this cowling of Japanese navy G-4 torpedo bomber. MCU Of a piece of equipment overturned by blast. MLS Showing effect of blast and fragmentation on the overhead lines in the second fitting shop. MCU Of a crude sand-filled bamboo revetment erected in an attempt to compartmentalize the second fitting shop. MCU Reverse angle of the same revetment. CU Showing the effect of a direct hit of a 500 lb GP bomb on a piece of exceptionally heavy equipment located in the NW corner of the second fitting shop. LS Looking E from a revetment on the airfield the W and S faces of building XY engine test cells. LS Looking SE showing N and W faces of a light steel frame structure which received multiple hits which resulted in widespread structural damage and partial collapse. MLS Looking E at the SW of building S showing structural collapse and the roof members resting on a crushed plane. LS Looking NE across completely destroyed SW face of building W and engine assembly plant. MLS Panning N to E across the interior of building W showing the effect of the attack on the engine assembly line. LS Panning SE to S showing the S half of building T showing NW faces. MCU Showing the structural damage inflicted on the roof by the direct hit of 500 lb GP bomb fused .1 nose and .01 tail. W end of building T. LPS Panning NE to E shows the S and W faces of building K final assembly plant. MCU Of engines on dollies on the SW corner of building K final assembly plant. Reverse angle shot of same MS. LS Panning E to SW showing the spacious interior of building K, its reasonably modern layout and equipment. LPS Panning NE to E showing the face of building J. MLS Looking SE showing the structural collapse as a result of intense heat in the SW corner of building J. MLS Looking SW at the SW corner showing the structural collapse of the SW corner of building J. MPS Panning SE to SW on the interior of building J showing the spacious design of the interior. LS Looking S showing the N and E faces of a three-story reinforced concrete building which received three direct hits with 500 lb GP bombs. MLS Looking SW at the NW corner showing the structural damage inflicted on the second and third floors by a direct hit by a 500 lb GP bomb probably .1 nose and .01 tail delay. MLS Target 90:25-81 Narua, Japan (Aircraft Plant). Reinforced concrete stairwell on roof of building C which shows the effect of blast. Camera looking NE. MPS To the E and W showing building F as seen from roof of building G (same as target above). General view of entire harbor area of the Hiro Naval Air Base. In the far background, the installation, such as hangars, etc. This view is panned from E to SE. Same as above, closer shot of installation. LS Looking N showing the S and E faces of a two-story brick load bearing steel frame structure, Target 90:30-660, which received a direct hit with a 500 lb GP bomb. MS Same as above shows the S face of building when looking NE. MPS Pan down looking W showing a direct hit on the crane rails on the S side of the foundry yard. MS Showing the effect of a near miss on the front of an electric annealing furnace. MLS Showing the point of detonation on a steel frame roof. LS Pan down from damaged steel frame roof to undamaged machinery which was in the process of making screw propellers. Japanese worker in foreground. Two closeups. MS Of the screw propellers. MS Pan down on a bent steel column leaning to the N and at its base. LS Showing the point of detonation on a steel frame roof. LS Looking S showing W face of three-story reinforced concrete building. Affected by blast. MLS Looking S showing the entrance of an underground aircraft factory. MS Same as above. MS Same as above, different angle. LS Pan interior Mizushima Mitsubishi Engine Aircraft Plant located approx. 15 miles SW of Okayama, near the town of Kurashiki. This plant was engaged in sub and final assembly on Japanese G4 Naval Torpedo Bombers. The scene shows the final assembly section in building 3 which is located at the extreme SW corner of the plant. Camera is panned S to W (plant attacked June 22, 1945). MS Several partly complete fuselages lying about. MC Same as above, different angle, pan L to R past fuselages on sides to wings which are all scattered about the floor of the plant. Note the effect of heavy fragmentation to fuselages caused by burst from 500 lb GP bomb. CU Miscellaneous parts for aircraft lying on floor and effect of fragmentation to concrete floor. MS Pan final assembly shop shows dollies and jigs. MS Looking up at roof showing point of entry of 500 lb bomb then a pan down along vertical column to show effect of blast. MCU Same as above, close up of column. MLS Looking W to NW showing exterior view of fuselage assembly shop located S central part of plant. MLS Pan fuselage assembly shops and assembly line showing the parts and fittings lying about which were being fed into the line. MLS Looking SW from interior of above shops showing type of steel frame construction used on the building. MS Exterior showing SW side of above building (fitting shop) viewed NW. MLS Interior looking E of fitting shop showing destruction and miscellaneous parts including large landing gear in foreground. MCU Closer shot of landing gear. MS Interior closeup of crater left by a 500 lb bomb then a slow pan upwards to side of building then continues L to R across the floor to show damage inflicted to sides of building, into and the concrete flooring by the impact of a 500 lb GP bomb which was not activated by impact upon entering the roof but by delayed action shortly after striking the concrete floor. MS Pan looking E shows damage to a drying installation. MS MC Several cuts showing wooden templates used in construction of torpedo bomber. MS MC Earth filled bamboo revetment which was built in a NS direction in an attempt to compartmentalize the first fitting shop. MS Pan effect of blast to machines and electrical equipment. MCU CU Two short cuts of damaged electrical machinery.
