Summary: B-52/X-15 mating, take-off, X-15 drop, in flight, drops tail fin, X-15 in flight with chase plane F-104, landing, emergency crew around, support vehicles converging, Crossfield debarks, B-52 in flight, chase planes, landing, vapor trails, radio trailer, tracking camera, air policeman and car. (Shot list to follow.) Reel 1, 751': A/LS, B-52 and three chase planes frlying R/L. 56' B-52 carrying X-15, take-off L/R. 174' ELS, X-15 flying R/L diagonally across the frame with vapor trail behind it. 183' LS-MCU, chase planes (F-104's) come in with the X-15 as it comes to the field. X-15 lands L/R as the F-104's go out of frame. 303' MCU, X-15 sitting on ground L/R. Pilot opens canopy as a crewman on the outside helps him as the emergency vehicles arrive. 377' MLS, X-15 sitting on ground L/R, as a fire truck sits in front of it. Emergency crew gathers around the X-15. 416' Tail slate. 421' Leader. 433' LS, X-15 flying L/R, drops tail fin. Camera holds on tail fin as chute opeons and it drops way down out of sight. Reel 2, 477': Slate. 15' ELS, X-15 and two chase plalnes come in for landing. X-15 drops tail fin. X-15 lands L/R, emergency vehicles arriving on the scene. 169' Leader & slate. 186' ELS, X-15 and two chase planes, F-104's, come in for landing L/R. While the X-15 is on its way slowing down to a stop, the F-104's make an extremely low pass with landing gear down. Emergency crew arrives after X-15 comes to stop and a helicopter goes through camera frame. Reel 3, 532': Slate. 5' LS, X-15 mated to B-52, LOXing. A motion picture cameraman is in the fg shooting same. 34' CU, Air Police car, front door with words on door reading "EDWARDS AFB." Car is parked sitting R/L, Air Force Sgt sitting in front seat looking out of door which is open. 46' MS, a group of people watching the sky, standing L/R. A weather truck in bg. 59' CU, Air Police Sgt., standing outside of Air Police car, watching sky. Reel 4, 513': A/LS, vapor trail going across sky (diagonally from top right frame towards lower left frame). 83' A/LS, vapor trails, series of shots. 111' LS, X-15 and F-104 flying R/L. One chase plane pops chute in air and comes down in a hurry. 185' Leader. 191' A/LS, series of shots taken of X-15 and activities on ground around X-15 after landing. All scenes were shot from a helicopter while circling several times around X-15 on ground. 360' Leader. 368' A/CU-MS-LS, tracking camera sitting on back of truck bed. Shot from a helicopter circling several times around the truck. 436' NG. 439' A/LS, B-52 carrying X-15 going down runway L/R for takeoff. 482' A/LS, B-52 airborne at end of runway, after takeoff L/R climbing. 509' A/ELS, B-52 flying L/R. Helicopter wheel in lower left corner of frame. Reel 5, 443': LS, water tower. 4' A/ELS, B-52, carrying X-15, flying towards top of frame. X-15 is dropped and camera holds on the X-15 and the B-52 is lost out of frame. 94' A/ELS, X-15 enters frame lower right corner R/L and goes out center left. 109' LS, X-15, and F-104 chase plane flying R/L. Second F-104 catches up with the X-15, X-15 drops tail fin, while the third F-104 comes into view L/R with drag chute popped. Drops down out of frame as camera holds onto X-15 as it lands. While it is rolling to a stop, emergency vehicles head towards it. Reel 6, 633': ELS-MS-ELS, B-52 with X-15 under wing, taking off L/R. A/C becomes airborne as it passes in front of camera. Pan shot to right as a/c starts it's climb, leaving contrails as it flies out of sight. 138' ELS-MS, B-52 landing after releasing X-15 for its flight L/R. Brake parachute opens as plane comes down runway. Pan shot L/R. 281' Leader. 289' A/LS, X-15 dropping from wing of B-52, starts its powered flight L/R. 310' A/ELS, X-15 in flight, starts it climb, then levels off. After a period of level flying, a/c starts descending. 393' A/ELS X-15 descending after making successful flight. Tail fin of a/c is jettisoned and side pads are lowered as pilot prepares for landing. 481' LS, A/G, of X-15 landing L/R. 495' Leader & slate. 504' ELS, G/a, X-15 in flight L/R, chase plane F-104 is to right of X-15. 536' ELS, G/A as X-15 tail fin is jettisoned, parachute of tail fin opens. 549' ELS, X-15 in flight R/L with chase plane following. X-15 starts to land (camera not in good position to cover actual landing). 605' ELS, G/A, of parachute on tail fin as it drops to earth. Reel 7, 483': LS, of water tower. 9' ELS, G/A, X-15, dropping from wing of B-52, starts its powered flight R/L. Three chase planes are also in scene; chase plane folows X-15 as it starts to climb. Chase planes leave scene as X-15 continues to climb. 92/ NG footage, tracking camera looses sight of X-15 a/c. 169' ELS, G/A, X-15 in flight, starts descending followed by chase plane, F-104. Second F-104 enters scene R/L, passes X-15 as same jettisons tail fin, then third chase plane, F-100, enters scene R/L with brake parachute open. Chase planes leave scene, X-15 lowers skid pads and lands R/L on lake bed. Support vehicles and fire truck arrive at scene as a/c comes to stop. Good (Basic: ECN)
