Description

1) MCU Flight deck crane, red shirts and other flight deck personnel off to left; the 'copter is on the extreme forward edge of flight deck preparing to recover an SH-3A crashed 'copter on fantail of the USS LONG BEACH (CGN-9); SH-3A made an emergency landing on LONG BEACH after developing transmission trouble. VG 2) CU Personnel working around the flight-deck salvage crane, securing it into position. G 3) CU Men using chain tie downs in securing the flight deck crane (SV). VG 4) CU Red shirt and a green shirt working alongside the flight deck crane (SV). VG 5) CU Red shirt, acting as operator, working the crane controls; open sea in BG. G 6) HA CU Man pushing one of the buttons on crane controls. VG 7) MCU Men working with manila lines on deck, faking down a line (SV). 8) MS Overall view, flight deck crane, with several flight deck personnel working off to left; men are faking down a line as other men carry some line off to right. VG 9) CU Man holding onto a small manila line. G 10) CU Man standing in line holding onto a loose manila line, man bends down to fake down the line, putting it close to the other sections of line. G 11) CU Men faking down the line on flight deck. G 12) CU Officer, using a Walkie Talkie, acting as communications coordinator. G 13) CU Another officer, using a Walkie Talkie, acting as communications coordinator. G 14) CU ADM HARRY HARTY, ASWGroup-3, alongside of CDR HOLFMAN, C.O. of HS-2, as they watch the operations; 'copter is directly in BG just beyond the group of officers and men. VG 15) CU Flight desk personnel working with lines in FG; part of the LONG BEACH is framed in mid BG passing by the USS HORNET (CVS-12). G 16) MS Flight deck crane, with the USS LONG BEACH pulling up close along the starb'd bow of USS HORNET. G 17) MS Several men on flight deck near flight deck crane, with LONG BEACH pulling up close alongside; PAN, showing the LONG BEACH pulling directly ahead of the HORNET. VG 18) CU Personnel on deck on starboard bow of flight deck; stern of LONG BEACH directly in BG. G 19) CU ADM HARTY and CDR T.J. GULIDAY, Weapons Officer, discussing recovery operations; other officers and men in area. G 20) CU Flight deck personnel looking on as the LONG BEACH comes alongside the HORNET; the LONG BEACH is now backing down; two red shirts, one man with a line gun fires it over to the stern area of the LONG BEACH. G 21) HA CU Looking down over port quarter of LONG BEACH directly off the starboard bow of the HORNET; several crewmen are around the missile launcher on fantail of LONG BEACH. 22) CU Men on flight deck of HORNET handling lines, passing them over to the LONG BEACH. G 23) HA MS Looking down over the disabled SH-3A 'copter on deck of LONG BEACH; two officers in safety net in FG. G 24) HS MS Crane hook from flight deck crane being lowered over SH-3A 'copter; man holds onto the crane hook, attaches the slings in place. G 25) HA MCU Men given the hook-up signal, begins moving out of the way. G 26) MCU SH-3A 'copter in the air, off deck of LONG BEACH; guy lines are running off to deck of HORNET. VG 27) MCU SH-3A hanging in mid air from flight deck crane; open sea in BG; SH-3A enters scene in right flying by in BG. VG 28) CU Officers and men moving past the camera, across the flight deck, with the disabled SH-3A 'copter now resting on deck of HORNET (SV). G 29) MS Flight deck crane, with a beam view of the SH-3A in G on bow. G 30) MS Beam view, SH-3A on bow of HORNET, several men are at work with lines in BG. G 31) CU SH-3A being towed backwards over flight deck. VG 32) MCU Stern view, tractor with the SH- 3A in tow; island structure of HORNET in left BG; 'copter is towed down the deck, showing a MS to MLS front view of 'copter; several men come into scene, some in green shirts, yellow shirts, walking about the deck following the 'copter. VG 33) CU Yellow shirt giving hand signals; tractor in direct BG attached to the SH-3A 'copter, which is situated on the deck-edge elevator; an APU enters scene from right, moving into FG. VG
