Description

1) CU Port bow view of NAUTILUS backing away from pier several people seen to R FG waving and cheering the crew from the ancient type submarine. 2) MS NAUTILUS underway in the river. 3) MS Starb'd beam view of submarine underway on surface. G 4) LA MLS Looking out over broken ice and open water. 5) CU Looking down over side of ship showing broken ice floating by throughout the area. SV 6) MCU Starb'd bow with the name "NAUTILUS" on bow, bow up against heavy ice; ship's bow moves up to ice very lowly PAN L along starb'd side showing 4 men on deck. G 7) HA CU Men on deck with deep sea diver going over the side into the icy waters; men tending air hoses and lines; diver disappears below surface of water, preparing to check bow of sub for damages, 8) HA MS Diver's head appearing above surface then disappearing again, bubbles coming up to surface; men tending lines. G 9) HA MS Diver popping back to surface; men tending lines as diver climbs up the side of sub; heavy ice seen off to R FG. G 10) HA MS Helmet being removed from diver's head as he is half way up side of sub; men on deck assist diver. VG 11) MS Looking forward on NAUTILUS, two men seen forward on bow; shis is in broken, slush ice. G 12) CU Looking over stern showing the screw churning up water and ice. 13) MS Solid ice with the sub up next to the ice; two men on the ice. G 14) MCU Group of men coming off sub, over gang plank, onto solid ice. G 15) MCU Several men on the solid ice. G 16) HA MS Two men on ice with instruments on tripods. G 17) CU Man with an instrument set up on tripod, checking instrument and jotting down information. 18) LS Men on ice, two in each party, one party in FG one in BG. 19) CU Two men on ice,lighting their pipes. 20) LA MS Looking along side of NAUTILUS, ice off to R; men seen coming back to sub with their instruments 21) HA CU Shaft turning inside sub, in engine room. G 22) MCU Two flexible hoses hanging in a compartment; crewman securing a Nansen bottle in place on the bulkhead, man checks bottle and writes down information. 23) CU Two men working in small compartment with a tubular instrument. G-F 24) CU Man on deck in foul weather clothing; broken ice floating in entire BG. G 25) CU Man on periscope of NAUTILUS in control room. 26) CU Man in engine room of NAUTILUS turning a crank. 27) MCUT hree men at work in small compartment with a chain hoist, one man turning a crank. 28) HA MCU Three men at work in compartment with a chain hoist; appear to be working next to bunks and living quarters. G 29) MCU NAUTILUS on surface with men working on deck, lowering a stancion; ice in FG. G 30) CU Man on deck in foul weather clothing; ice seen throughout the area. 31) LS Looking out over ice and open water in the Arctic area. G 32) MS Starb'd bow view of NAUTILUS moving through the broken ice. G 33) CU Man in the engine room working with valves.
