Description

1) CU Machine being used to spray oil abatement product out onto water from after deck of COMPTON. F 2) CU Looking down over oil abatement product on surface of water with more being sprayed onto surface. G 3) MS Crewmen dumping bags of abatement product into hopper of machine; PAN R showing crewmen on fantail. G 4) MS Fram view of product being sprayed on water; life lines in FG. 5) MS Wake of COMPTON; two men standing by ready to use flame thrower in an attempt to light the oil; flame thrower is turned on and throwing flame over water surface with no effect. G-F 6) CU Officers and men talking on fantail of DD. 7) HA MCU Two crewmen working around gear in card board boxes on deck. F 8) MCU Four crewmen on deck of COMPTON; man with a bucket used for dumping kerosene over side. G 9) CU Man with bag of oil abatement product pouring it out over ships side; PAN to other men pouring product over side; the product is a grayish substance. G 11) MS Several persons seen on deck; smoke is seen on water in R BG. 12) CU Officer lighting a torch on a piece of wood, throwing it over side to float on surface, trying to ignite product on surface of water. 13) MS Flare floating on surface and burning; other flares are seen in area; flares do not light off the oil abatement product. 14) HA MCU Flare burning in midst of oil abatement product on surface with attempt to set product on fire along with oil; PAN L showing debris oil and oil abatement product on water. G-F 15) MS Officer throwing unidt. object into water; life lines in FG. G 16) CU Officer along deck edge; orange flare in hand of officer, orange smoke drifting to L. (marker type flare for wind direction) 17) MS Men on foc'sle of COMPTON, looking over side. F 18) MLS Flare burning on water as men continue to light the oil abatement product and oil on surface of water. F 19) CU Man at deck edge playing a flame thrower down over water surface alongside; officers enter scene. G 35) CU Men rushing by with fire hose as ship backs down; ship's bow in mid BG; smoke in far BG with ship now clear of fire and smoke. G 36) MLS Fire burning on surface of water; smoke. G 37) LS Smoke coming from fire on water; ship's bow framed in FG; HH-3F circling from R to photograph fire. VG 38) SV's Fire burning on surface; HH-3F hovering some distance from fire.
