Strip-mining the Seas Part 5
Description
The agency provided description reads as follows: Until recently, fishermen have concentrated on off-shore coastal fishing primarily for tuna and salmon. Now, over 1,500 driftnet boats occupy the northwest area of the Pacific, and each night 30,000 miles of monofilament plastic fishing net floats in the waters, taking a devastating toll on the ocean environment. Scientists refer to this as strip-mining the seas, a technique used primarily by Japan, Korea, and Taiwan for tuna and squid. The producer of this video is Earthtrust.
