GANGSTER GUNS MELTED UP: CHICAGO, IL - Pistols, revolvers and other weapons used by former gunmen are thrown by the shovelful into a special furnace by Coroner F.J. Walsh, and, as a strange contrast, the metal is used to make plaques for “Public Heroes.” / UNIQUE “SWAMPMOBILE” BUILT: NEW ORLEANS, LA - An amazing vehicle that speeds across grassy swamps at 35 M.P.H., and crosses rivers, has an impressive debut. It is driven by two airplane propellers and for wheels uses huge drums, which keep it afloat. / LOCOMOTIVES TAKEN FOR A RIDE: EDDYSTONE, PA - Seven huge engines, weighing 100 tons each and built by the Baldwin Locomotive Co. for the Chilean State Railway, are loaded on board a specially-designed freighter. / HAWKS DIES IN PLANE CRASH: EAST AURORA, NY - Commander Frank Hawks, famous pilot, who had given up speed flying, loses his life, along with a companion, when their small “safety” crafts hits high tension wires and plunges to the ground in flames. 3. MASS “SWING” JAMBOREE HELD: CHICAGO, IL - 200,000 “jitterbugs” (100,000 are turned away), followers of the tempestuous “shag” and the “truck on down,” jam Soldier Field with their mad antics and unique steps in one of the most “slap-happy” dance sessions ever witnessed. 4. BLIND BOYS GET CANINE GUIDES: CHICAGO, IL - (Exclusive) As the start of a drive to supply trained dogs to sightless young men, John L. Sinykin, originator of the “Master’s Eyes” Kennels, turns over the first three of 100 of the wonderful animals. 5. FRUIT SALAD SAVES FACE: NEW YORK, NY - Fruit and vegetable diets are well known as beauty aids, but Senora Pulgar uses them in a unique way, applying tomatoes, cucumbers and others directly on the faces of aspirants for beautiful complexions. 6A/B/C. DUMMIES ARE MADE, NOT BORN: GILMAN, CT - (Exclusive) Marty Gilman’s practice “dummies” are famous on gridirons from coast to coast. From his interesting shop, the mechanical triple-threat men are being rushed to coaching fields all over the land, ready to pep up even the best stars. / “ROUGH-WATER” SWIM STAGED: LA JOLLA, CA - Thousands of spectators see daring ocean swimmers compete in the annual seagoing derby, a mile-and-a-half endurance test.
