AIR ENDURANCE RECORD BROKEN: SYRACUSE, NY - (Exclusive) Although their "flivver" plane was forced down after 4½ days, Merrill Phoenix and Harold Allen break the small craft "marathon" record of 60 hours, making amazing "catch-as-catch-can" contacts for fuel and food from the top of a speeding auto. / SUDETENS HOLD "THANKSGIVING": OBERLEUTENSDORF, CZECH - (Exclusive) While the world anxiously awaits the outcome of the crisis between the Czechs and the Nazis, members of the Sudeten-German Party stage a harvest festival which combines rejoicing and party politics. / 10-FOOT SUBMARINE HAS DEBUT: MICHIGAN CITY, IN - A tiny underwater craft, so small that its builder, Byron Connett, can barely move around, makes an amazing trial voyage. NEW SLANT ON JITTERBUGS: VENICE, CA - The new dance crazes—the Yam, the Shag and the Lindy Hop—hit West Coast resorts and mad-cap dancers cover the beach with their antics. The newsreel camera catches some amusing "bug's-eye" angles of the swing session. 5A/B/C/D. ITALIAN WINS GOLD CUP RACE: DETROIT, MI - In the thrilling and colorful classic on the Detroit River, which brings tragedy to some racers, Count Rossi, Italian sportsman, driving a curious hump-backed speedboat, wins the 33-mile grind at a terrific 72 M.P.H. clip. / NAVY'S 1938 "GRIDDERS" SHINE: ANNAPOLIS, MD - Uncle Sam's future "admirals" are launched into a rigorous practice work-out in preparation for the Fall football campaign. Led by the famous Navy Goat, the Middies rush into the training session that has "zip" right from the start. / NOTED RING BATTLE RE-ENACTED: HATTIESBURG, MS - Turning the clock back to 1889—to the amazing 75-round "bare knuckle" boxing match between John L. Sullivan, champion, and Jake Kilrain, challenger, that epic struggle is restaged with all the bruising gusto of the original. / UNSER WINS MOUNTAIN RACE: PIKE'S PEAK, CO - Driving on a treacherous, ice-coated mountain road, Louis Unser, local daredevil, wins the famous racing classic for the fourth consecutive time, covering the 12 dangerous hairpin miles to the 14,110-foot peak in 15 min.
