A “Flying Pencil” is shot down, and the crew of three taken prisoner.—British aviators, meanwhile, take off for dangerous photographic missions over German—and return with valuable photos. 1B. BRITISH DESTROY NAZI MINES: ENGLAND - Dangerous work! British naval workers “dissect” a German mine, washed ashore by a storm. One false move as they remove the detonator and high explosives—and the men would be blown sky high! 2A/B. LINCOLN HONORED BY THE NATION: NEW YORK, NY - As the nation pays tribute to the “Great Emancipator,” Republicans, including Mrs. Robert Taft, attack New Deal policies and say the government is leaving a terrible debt for the next generation to pay. / NEW SALEM PARK, IL - Postmaster General Farley officiates as the old Lincoln Post office, closed many years, is re-opened. 2C.GIRLS USE GLASS CAR AS CABANA: MIAMI BEACH, FL - Pretty bathing beauties find that a glass auto makes an ideal cabana, in which to doff their street clothes before taking a dip in the ocean. P.S.—the lassies wear their swim suits under their clothes!—METAL TANKS KEEP SWIMMER UP: MIAMI, FL - The latest version of “water wings.” Aluminum tanks, strapped on the swimmer’s back, keep one from getting ducked. For babies, it’s just the thing, and it gets a real try-out by pretty bathing queens. 3A. PRIZE U.S. DOGS SEEN IN SHOW: NEW YORK, NY - The cream of the American canine crop—all assembled in one blue-blooded gathering for the Westminster Kennel Club showing. Almost 3,000 dogs, many of them champions, in a swanky pooch parade! 3B. YOUNG SKIPPERS RACE SAILBOATS: MIAMI, FL - Biscayne Bay is the setting of this nautical classic, where doughty skippers send their small yachts scudding across the sparkling water. And boy! The wind causes near upsets galore! 3C. DIMAGGIO TRIES CHEESE ROLLING: SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Joe DiMaggio, star Yankee ball players, and brother Dominic, also a diamond star, keep in shape by playing the old Italian game of cheese rolling. They roll an 8-lb. cheese almost a 1,000 feet. 4. BIGGEST TANK MANEUVERS HELD: FORT BENNING, GA - Thrilling scenes as almost 300 tanks—the greatest concentration ever put in the field by the U.S. Army—take part in realistic battle training. The mechanized units advance to the attack through smoke and fire!
