Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. ROOSEVELT RE-ELECTED / PLURALITY CLOSER THAN IN 1936 AS PRESIDENT WINS THIRD TERM: History-making scenes as Americans go to the polls and re-elect President Roosevelt to serve for a precedent-breaking third term! The President carries 40 states but the popular vote is much closer than it was four years ago.—HYDE PARK, NY - The "Champ" casts his vote, along with members of his family. Later, at night, after most of the returns are in, the "First Family" receives well wishes from neighbors.—NEW YORK, NY - Wendell Willkie, dynamic Republican candidate whose "Crusade" won him more votes than any other losing candidate in the nation's history, votes with Mrs. Willkie. Also shown voting are "Jim" Farley, "Al" Smith and others. At night, thousands jam Times Square as the returns roll up a Roosevelt victory!—CHICAGO, IL - Mayor Kelly, "Boss" of the local political machine, casts his ballot, as does Secretary of the Navy Knox, former Republican and Landon's running mate in 1936. (Pre-Released to all accounts) 2A. PADEREWSKI ARRIVES IN U.S.: JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Polish patriot and musician arrive on his 80th birthday, on board the SS Excambion. He is seeking a haven of safety far from the intolerable conditions in Poland. 2B. BAKER, WA - Early snow blankets this favorites skiing ground with a soft mantle of white, bringing out the "early birds" of the slat clan. It's a colorful sight to see them try their "wings." 3B.
