Heroes of Attack on Convoy (Universal Newsreel, Nov 1940)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1A. HEROES OF ATTACK ON CONVOY: CANADA - Survivors of the armed merchantman, Jervis Bay, which engaged a Nazi "Raider" and saved 34 out of a convoy of 38 freighters, arrive on rescue ship and get big welcome. Many are wounded but proud of their exploits that thrilled the civilized world. 1B. NEW BOMBERS HEAD FOR BRITAIN: SANTA MONICA, CA - Eight new Douglas DB-7 attack bombers, deadliest of its type in the world, take off for the East, where they'll be shipped to England to tackle the Nazi war birds. 1C. CAPITOL DOME THREATENS CONGRESS: WASHINGTON, D.C. - "Heavy-heavy hangs over the head of Congress"! The historic dome, built in 1854, is in danger of collapse, experts fear. House vote to remain in session delays repair of the famous structure! 1D. FIRST DRAFTEES ARRIVE AT CAMP: FORT SHERIDAN, IL - Young recruits for Uncle Sam's conscript army, first to be called out, arrive for a year's training. They get a going-over by Army doctors—and then are fitted for a uniform. 2. FILM STARS IN PLEA TO ALIENS: U.S.A. - A plea to all aliens to register with the U.S. is made by Charles Boyer and Merle Oberon, foreign screen stars, who say that the opportunities given them and others should be reciprocated. 3A. CORNELL BOWS ON 5TH DOWN RULING: HANOVER, NH - Football's "photo-finish" upset of the year! Pictures show much-publicized "fifth down" that cancels Cornell's 7-3 victory over the Dartmouth "Indians," and ends the Big Red 2-year winning streak! 3B. INDOOR SKI MEET: Indoor ski jumping. 3C. DOG SLED RACE: Dogs pull sleds on wheels race. 3D. DIVING STARS SHINE IN MEET: PALM SPRINGS, CA - Crack U.S. aquatic stars thrill the fans with a breathless exhibition of high-board diving. Marjorie Gestring, Corinne Smith and other outstanding exponents show their top-notch form.
