Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. F.D.R. LAUDS FILM INDUSTRY: LOS ANGELES, CA - Winners of Motion Picture Academy awards, including Ginger Rogers and James Stewart, hear President Roosevelt speak from the White House during colorful presentation ceremonies. 2A. ON THE WAR FRONT / BRITISH CAPTURE ITALIAN DESERT FORT: Spectacular pictures of the British "blitz" drive against Fascist stronghold in Libya. Following a barrage, tanks and troops take the fortifications and pour into the city. Thousands of prisoners are taken! 2B. ITALIAN PRISONERS LAND IN INDIA: BOMBAY - Far from the theater of war in Africa, thousands of Fascist soldiers arrive under heavy guard, headed for prison camps in India. Britain gets them away from the danger zone! 2C. "OPM" PLAN ENDS STEEL STRIKE: LACKAWANNA, NY - National defense orders, menaced by a strike of Bethlehem Steel workers, are resumed 39 hours after pickets are thrown around the plant. Strikers and police clash, but a 3-point plan by the Office of Production Management ends the disastrous tie-up! 2D. 10,000 TROOPS IN BLITZ-MARCH: FORT SILL, OK - Thousands of troops and 1,400 trucks take part in a record "march" to new quarters of the 45th Division at Abilene, Texas. Uncle Sam's new forces can get places—in a hurry! 2E. 7 DEAD IN SLEEPER PLANE CRASH: ATLANTA, GA - Seven persons, including a Congressman, perish in the wreckage of a luxury airliner that crashed into a pine forest. Airline President and World War "Ace," Edward V. Rickenbacker, was seriously injured. 3A. SPILLS FEATURE ROLLER DERBY: CHICAGO, IL - Plenty of bone-bruising spills mark the start of the skating battle between teams from Chicago and New York. It's a dizzy round for the boys and girls—and when they fall, ouch! 3B. DOUBLE VICTORY AT HIALEAH!: MIAMI, FL - Edward Moore's Circle M Ranch entries, Big Pebble and Get Off, make history in the Widener Challenge Cup classic by finishing first and second, with the favored Bimelech fourth. A double-edged thriller! 3C. SPEEDBOATS IN THRILL CLASSIC: MIAMI, FL - Speed and thrills (you said it!) mark the annual Biscayne Bay Regatta, with speedy craft churning up the bay. One boat runs wild, comes up the bank and crashes into autos parked near the shore! Boy! (LOCAL – PHILADELPHIA) IMPRESSIVE GREEK CEREMONY HONORS GEO. WASHINGTON. (LOCAL – CHICAGO) CHICAGO “CUBS” HEAD FOR “PENNANT” YEAR WITH LOFTY HOPES. (LOCAL – PITTSBURGH) PITTSBURGH PIRATES GETTING INTO SHAPE AT TRAINING CAMP.
