Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. "NOW, LET'S WIN THE WAR"—DEWEY: NEW YORK CITY - Gubernatorial victor, as New York goes Republican in a statewide landslide, Thomas E. Dewey calls on people to bury all factional differences . . . and unite in winning the war. 2. MACARTHUR'S MEN TAKE KOKODA: NEW GUINEA - Australian fighters, under Gen. MacArthur, are keeping the Japs on the run in this wild jungle country. It's great to see how the native fuzzy-wuzzies recognize the United Nations fighters as their friends. 3. HIGH SCHOOL WINS SCRAP CONTEST: LOS ANGELES, CA - with 1450 students brining in 180-tons of scrap metal, Belvedere Junior High School of Los Angeles takes first place in a drive in which every public school participated. 4. ROCK SLIDE WRECKS FREIGHT: SAFE HARBOR, PA - A 59-car freight train plows into a rock slide, loosened by heavy rainstorms, and twelve cars go up in a blaze as spilled oil and gasoline ignite. 5. MEET EX-LT. COM. SMITH: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Secretary Knox swears in Paul C. Smith as a Private in the Marine Corps after the latter has resigned a Lt. Commander's commission in order to learn, in his own words—"how to use a bayonet." 6. MARINES HOLD FIRM IN SOLOMONS: SOUTHERN PACIFIC - Reassuring pictures of goodly reinforcements of men and materiel for the Solomons area are seen leaving and arriving—while the boys on the spot continue to give a good account of themselves with plenty of prisoners to their credit.
