R.A.F. Blasts Europe (Universal Newsreel, Sep 1943)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. ITALY SURRENDERS: To save herself from advancing ruin, Italy signs armistice terms agreeing to unconditional surrender—and lays down her arms. Il Duce is mocked in his ruin, and the masterful strategy of General Eisenhower secures the willing co-operation of a conquered, but not a subjugated Italy. 2. ROOSEVELT OPENS DRIVE: Pres. Roosevelt cites Italy's capitulation as a victory for the Italian people, as well as for Gen. Eisenhower as he officially opens the Third War Loan Drive. 3. MOVIE STARS SELL BONDS: The "Hollywood Bond Cavalcade" of screen luminaries arrives in Washington, D.C., to do their part in getting the 3rd War Loan Drive under way. 4. WINSTON CHURCHILL, LLD: Harvard confers its coveted degree upon Winston Churchill. In his speech, the Prime Minister pledges that England will march side by side with the U.S., to complete victory. 5. R.A.F. BLASTS EUROPE: The R.A.F. roars over the North Sea in Boston bombers, and plants destructive delayed-action bombs on Valenciennes, France. Incredible speed marks the whole venture. 6. PACIFIC WOUNDED: Wounded in the Munda victory, Yank casualties receive expert medical attention. Many apparently hopeless cases are restored to normal health. 7. VIENNESE JIVE: The graceful Viennese waltz ushers in the annual Harvest Moon Ball at Madison Square Garden. But brother, just see those jitterbugs shove it around at about 80 to the bar.
