Victories in France (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1944)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. VICTORIES IN FRANCE: The magnitude of the destruction which is being vent on the Nazis in France is brought home by these pictures. Long roadsides look like junk yards, completely littered with wrecked German equipment, remnants of the famous Panzer divisions.—Nazi corpses are strewn about, Nazi wounded are treated. Then we see part of the ever-growing march of tens of thousands of demobilized Nazi fighting men, marching to the rear, as prisoners. 2. DUMBARTON OAKS PARLEY: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Diplomatic missions, representing the U.S.A., Great Britain and the U.S.S.R., convene in parley to preserve the approaching peace and the Four Freedoms. 3. ICELAND INDEPENDENT: Iceland, after being a republic under foreign domination for 1,000 years, jubilantly celebrates the declaration of her complete independence. 4. F.D.R. MEETS TRUMAN: WASHINGTON, D.C. - Democratic candidates Roosevelt and Truman exchange confident smiles as they meet over the luncheon table at the White House. 5. SYNTHETIC TIRES: Army engineers put synthetic rubber tires through grueling bump tests over rocky roads. Then punctured tires are given the '40 miles test,' until they burn themselves up. 6. NAVY M.D.'S AT GUAM: Women and children of the Chamorros and other natives, freed from Jap subjugation, are treated by U.S. Navy doctors. Nothing dispels their grimness, not even generous helpings of G.I. mess. 7. YANKS MASTER PACIFIC SKIES: Aboard a Yank task force we watch stirring battles between batteries of Yank ack-ack guns and Jap planes. Flaming Jap planes hit the sea, in swarms. 8. SUNSET LAKE REGATTA: WILDWOOD, NJ - (Exclusive) Bots of the Comet and Moth class spin through the breeze at impossible angles as Wildwood Yacht Club stages classy small boat regatta.
