Jobs for All (Universal Newsreel, Aug 1945)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. U.S. CELEBRATES END OF WAR: The instant that newsmen flashed President Truman's statement that Japan had surrendered unconditionally, giant celebrations were set off all over the land.—Washington, D. C. started the ball rolling with continuous street parties. Chicago went wild, staging one of its largest demonstrations. San Francisco staged a celebration that will never be forgotten. Service men in Seattle led the way in the giant outdoor proceedings there.—But Times Square in N.Y.C. staged the celebration to end celebrations. Millions crowded the main stem all day, waiting for the official word. When it finally came, the fun started and went on for three days. 2. GASOLINE BAN LIFTED: Motorists go wild as O.P.A. lifts gas restrictions. And gas station employees out-do themselves in returning to pre-war efficiency. 3. JOBS FOR ALL: WASHINGTON, D.C. - John W. Snyder, Re-conversion chief, states that the government is committed to a program which will provide jobs for all who want to work. 4. THE ATOMIC BOMB: Scientists gather in the heart of a desert in New Mexico for the first test firing of America's super-super-secret weapon—the Atomic Bomb. Unforgettable pictures result. 5. BERLIN FROLICS: G.I.'s do a land office business in selling scarce commodities to Russian soldiers and Berliners. And when fraternization is permitted, they really fraternize with the lonely frauleins. (LOCAL – CANADA) CANADA’S CELEBRATION.
