Veterans Demonstrate (Universal Newsreel, Jan 1946)
Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. G.I. VICTORY PARADE: NEW YORK - Members of the famous 82nd Airborne Division symbolize all G.I. victories as they stride along the "Avenue of Heroes." Three million New Yorkers cheer themselves hoarse as the veterans of three campaigns put on their show, complete with tanks, airplanes and gliders. 2. CANADA HONORS IKE: General Eisenhower is given an ovation as he visits Ottawa and is received by Prime Minister MacKenzie King. At the University of Toronto he receives an honorary degree of doctor of laws. 3. VETERANS DEMONSTRATE: LONG BEACH, CA - Veterans demonstrate to call attention to their plan for the formation of air freight and express service which they claim would give employment to thousands of former army air personnel. 4. "WILD BILL" DECORATED: WASHINGTON - General Donovan, organizer and commander of the Office of Strategic services, receives the Oak Leaf cluster of the Distinguished Medal from President Truman. His "Cloak and Dagger" intelligence service performed hair-raising feats during the war. 5. HELICOPTER RECORDS BROKEN: BRIDGEPORT, CT - Altitude, speed and lift records go by the board with plenty to spare, as the newest Sikorsky "egg beater" is put through its paces. Twenty-one thousand feet altitude is just one of the marks set. 6. 'PLANE SKIING': MIAMI - Probably for the first time a plane tows a water skier. Champion Bruce Parker starts off on his water skis behind a speed boat and then transfers his tow to a flying plane. Bruce really moves after that. (LOCAL – CANADA) CAN. SCOTS HOME. (LOCAL – CANADA) MORRISON VISITS CANADA.
