Description
The original release sheet reads: 1. COAL STRIKE ON — MINERS OUT DESPITE U.S. INJUNCTION: Soft coal miners of John L. Lewis' U.M.W. leave the pits in many states as the dead-line for a new contract passes, and the Mine Chief ignores proceedings brought against him by Att'y. Gen. Clark in Washington. A serious threat to the national economy is in the making, as Uncle Sam and John L. Lewis come to a show-down. 2. EARTH SEEN FROM ROCKET: NEW MEXICO - A flying laboratory—including a motion picture camera—roars 65 miles above the earth, taking pictures on the way. The instrument was damaged when it landed, but the amazing film record was safe. 3. WINDMILL GLIDER FLOWN: SCHENECTADY - It has no wings, no power! See this amazing G.E. Gyro-Glider in flight, during novel tests in which the tiny craft is towed behind a jeep to get airborne. Something new in gliders! 4. TROPIC TOPICS: CYPRESS GARDENS - Florida's scenic playground is just "swimming" with lovely lassies, competing in the Tangerine Queen contest. John Powers of model fame picks the winner—pretty Dorothy Sparkman. 5A/B/C. ANCIENT FESTIVALS: BAVARIA - High in the Alps, the Tegernsee Monastery celebrates its 1200th anniversary, with a religious ceremony and parade. / SALZBURG - In historic pageant reaching back 700 years, this Tamsweg celebration is rich in Austrian tradition. / INDIA - More than a million take part in Juggernaut ceremony, dating back to ancient days when huge chariot was a suicide vehicle. 6. WOODEN INDIAN: BROOKLYN - Charlie McCarthy, that is! The little shaver of screen fame (and Edgar Bergen, too) is inducted into the Mohawk Tribe at Boro Hall ceremony. It's replete with real Indians—and laughs! (LOCAL – CANADA) SANTA CLAUS MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE.
