Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. N.Y. WELCOMES THE LEGION: NEW YORK - Their ranks swelled by veterans of World War II, over One Million American Legion members swarm into the "Big City" for the annual convention. The impressive turn-out gets off to an official start at Madison Square Garden, where Gov. Dewey warns of un-preparedness and the spread of Communism. 2. WORLD'S AIR SPEED RECORD: MUROC, CA - Two pilots, one Navy and the other Marine eclipse the world's speed record in the Navy's Douglas "Skystreak." Thrilling scenes show the record-shattering speed runs above the Mojave Desert. Marine Major Carl sets a mark of 650 m.p.h. 3. BABY SEALS RESCUED: SEASIDE, OR - Separated from their "mamas" and helpless to fend for themselves, four baby seals are washed ashore. Helpful humans aid the youngsters ashore, and provide a free hand-out of fresh fish. How the youngsters lap it up! 4. GALA ICE CARNIVAL: ATLANTIC CITY - A hot Summer treat is the Ice Capades of 1948, a glittering cool spectacle of flashing skaters, colorful costumes, and massed review numbers. A touch of nonsensical comedy helps round out a well-rounded show. (LOCAL – CANADA) MISS CANADA CROWNED ??. (LOCAL – CANADA) ALEXANDER AT AMERICAN LEGION CONVENTION.
