Pre-sailing ceremonies are attended by U.S. and French officials. 2. STRIKE GRIPS FRANCE: FRANCE - Plagued by waves of communist-inspired strikes and facing serious shortages, France fights for survival. Newsreel films show strikers and police at the height of the disorders in Paris and Lyons. 3A/B. THE "SNAKE" IN GERMANY: GERMANY - A queue here is called a "snake," the reptile of cities.
