Atlantic Pact Envoys Arrive (Universal Newsreel, Mar 1949)

Description

The original release sheet reads: 1. FOG DISPERSAL: LOS ANGELES - War time measures are again applied. Oil flares along the municipal airport runways dispel fog up to four hundred feet. 2. ATLANTIC PACT ENVOYS ARRIVE: NEW YORK - The Queen Mary brings Prime Minister Paul Henri Spaak of Belgium, and Foreign Minister Bevin of Great Britain, accompanied by Hector McNeil, minister of the state. Deputy foreign minister Gromyko of Russia is a fellow passenger but definitely not a signer of the pact. 3. EGG BEATER DRIVES SHIP: NEW YORK - The cycloidal propeller on an Army tug makes the vessel do tricks that even the camera can't improve on. It stops on a dime, turns on a dime and leaves you feeling like a beaten egg. 4. SPRING FLEECING: CANADA - The sheep country of Canada becomes one vast clip joint, 50,000 sheep are rounded up for shearing. Smart dogs help in this 300,000 pound crop. 5A/B. OXFORD-CAMBRIDGE CLASSIC: ENGLAND - For the one hundred and twentieth time, England's oldest universities tangle in their annual crew race, and Cambridge noses out a hairbreadth victory over their tradition rival. / SKIING IN THE TREES: FLORIDA - Literally that's what takes place at Cypress Gardens as Willa Worthington threads her way on water skis through the groves, mangroves and palms. Most of it's too close for comfort. (TRAILER) BING CROSBY IN "TRAILING A KILLER."
