DROUGHT PERILS VEGETABLE CROP: LONG ISLAND - Thirty rainless days in New York's metropolitan area, drives farmers to desperate measures and threatens to ruin the spring crops. / 43 ESCAPE DEATH IN PLANE CRASH: MEMPHIS - Skillful handling brings an airliner down safely in a crash landing which ends with a collision with a tree. / MASS PRODUCTION POULTRY: GERMANY - Six thousand chickens and ducks roll out of the incubators at Lemfoerde, and it takes twenty tons of food a day to feed them. 3A/B/C. HEAVY CHAMP CROWNED: CHICAGO - Ezzard Charles wears the heavyweight title, with reservations after his defeat of Jersey Joe Walcott.
